Tony's homework question

As seen in the movie watched in class and I'm sure we have all witnessed it first hand, people tend to racially profile people whether you admit it or not. Although it was worse in the past, it still exists today. Thanks to people like Martin Luther King Jr, racism especially has gone down. Why do people need to follow behind one courageous being to finally speak their mind and can not do anything on their own? Is it going to take another man like Martin Luther King Jr to help people speak up?

  1. I agree with you that racial profiling still does occur today. I think part of the reason why people don't speak up on their own is because they either believe that because they are one person they won't make a difference or because they are too afraid to go against what some people might believe. I think it's important for people to speak out against racism because it is unbelievably unfair. I think it is going to take another leader to encourage others to speak up because most people are too afraid to take the initiative and have all that attention on them.

  2. I agree with Nina. I feel that most people would feel like they are only one person and that one person can not change the world. I also feel that most of us would rather stand behind a leader than actually be a leader ourselves because of a fear of the consequences. Honestly most of us arent going to risk our lives to make changes in an issue like racism, but we support people like Martin Luther King Jr. who do. I think it will take a leader like him to make a change in the world. I just wonder when that leader will step up.

  3. I agree as well, I think that no matter how much we'd like to think that we as a nation are no longer racist it is not true. People will always make assumptions, whether they be true or false, about some based on their skin color or ethinic background. It is difficult to say otherwise based on history and common experiences that happen everyday. Your the best Tony
