Nina's homework question
As we've learned in history and shown in the movie that we watched in class on Friday, minority groups have often been discriminated against and white people, in history, have been thought of as superior. Although our country has made huge steps away from the terrible racism that occured during the beginnings of our country through the 20th century, do you think that all races are completely equal today? If not, do you think there will ever be a perfect equality?

I personally believe that all races are equal, but there are still many people who have the other outlook of it. You can see today, although as you said that we have made huge steps, that racial equality still does exists. People are just afraid of things out of the norm. For example, if a latin-american were to move into a wealthy caucasian neighborhood, the neighborhood would freak out because they are trying hard to maintain the 'norm' look and stay segregated and view themselves superior to everyone else
ReplyDeleteI would agree with Tony in that all races are equal. I don't understand why there is such a distinct separation anyway. Who cares if someone has darker skin, we should treat all people the same way. Society is scared to be different, people want to "fit in". We all have different world views and this starts at a young age. I don't think there will be perfect equality just because it has been going on for so long.
ReplyDeleteI personally think our society does not hold the truth that all races are equal. Not just the society of America but that of the world. Even though I personally wish that this were not the case, almost 1 out of every 4 black person in the United States is impoverished. In addition to this, the ten richest people in the world are all white. Because of this, I do not believe that there will ever be perfect equality, as sad as it is.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mike, it is still clear today that people are consumed with the idea of "race." This is going to be a hard thing to change in our world today, and im not even sure if its possible. So many people still hold ignorant views that it will b hard to make any progress with them slowing us down.
ReplyDeleteT totally disagree with anna and mike. I do agree that people are consumed with it but is that a bad thing. When you look at a person the first thing you see is their race. Nwo im not saying that you should purely judge them by that but it just puts into a perspective the history that they ahve been through, through their acestoral hsitory. Also another thing is that some races are favored and offered more oppertunities than others on their skin color many may say no this is not true but i have witnessed it with my own eyes and it si sad but it is reality! So no i do not believe their will every be totally equality until we acknowldege the problem!
